Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away

A Mui Ne-based school has changed the face of sailing in Vietnam. Words by Harry Hodge. Published on The Word HCMC Magazine. What started as a marine conservation project, sourcing alternatives to overfishing for fishermen, has become a boon for the nation’s amateur sailors. Sail-trained fishermen now run the watersports out of Manta, Vietnam’s first and only sailing school, which is located in Mui Ne.... read more

We might not win, but it doesn't mean we don't have to do our best, so we plan to continue tomorrow, and we could really use your help. Positive news this morning from Mui Ne People’s... read more

Conserving Vietnam’s Coastline

As Vietnam’s rich coastline gets carved up into marketable slices, Katie Jacobs talks with some brave souls fighting an uphill battle. Silence. The sound of my breathing, puffed from walking uphill, feels obtrusive. A soft wind picks up, as does the faint sound of lapping water on the beach below. A flock of birds squawk as they ascend from the canopy and are gone. Thatched roofs... read more

The Last Call: Julia Shaw

The Last Call: Julia Shaw

My love of sailing started… with my grandma’s boat when I was four, and grew with the independence of sailing dinghies when I was five, and teaching friends to sail when I was six. My grandmother’s boat… by the saltmarshes at the end of the Lymington River in the UK, was where we lived on long leave from Sarawak, as her house was too small... read more

Manta helps vietnam whale temples research

The road to the whale temple on the point winds through the quiet fishing village of Mui Ne, then climbs up a white sandy path to where the temple looks across the bay.  We park the Hondas and wait for the temple keeper to arrive. The famous red sand hills of Mui Ne color the horizon. Blue and red fishing boats crowd the bay below.... read more
