Thanks to TVE Global Sustainability Film Awards for featuring MANTA Sail Training Centre.

GSFA

MANTA’s core Social-Environmental Enterprise model

  1. Takes fishermen off fossil-fuel, off over-fishing, off endangered-habitats, off biodiversity loss/destruction, translating their existing ocean-skills to water-sports (SDG1,2).
  • Switching fossil-fuel use to wind, tide, paddle/muscle power, realizing many water-sports benefits for environmental/human health (SDG3,8).
  • Following World Sailing guidelines (quality education), modified for Vietnam, with greater safety, shorter-time, and simpler-language, aligned with other international curricula (IB/IGCSE/STREAM, plus digital addiction solutions, zero-waste/zero-plastic lifestyles (15Rs, Rethink-Refuse-Reuse-Recover-Repair-Recycle-Redesign-Rot-Revolutionize!), with environmental orientation (e.g, how oceans-beaches-dunes-rivers-concrete etc. form)) [SDG4].
  • Tallying water-sports safety-areas as Marine-Protected-Areas (MPAs), to allow marine-stocks to grow/multiply, under-the-radar, (SDG13,14).
  • Signed up to tag water-sports onto OMEGA-Global-Initiative, cultivating algae for food-fuel-water at sea, (SDG6).

Transforming-society

  1. In-turn, water-sports trained fishermen teach water-sports and climate-change survival-skills to large groups of children (maximum 40 students/session), in-line with international curricula.
  2. In-turn, students simultaneously sustain the fishermen’s new livelihoods, Vietnam’s national-team, and MANTA’s circular-model, while helping deliver 17 UN SDGs!

Since 2009, 15+ fishing-families and 2,000+ children have been trained (some for Tokyo Olympics), with global cyberspace reach over 75K.

SCALING-UP

  • Can link Vietnam’s 3 sports-universities (sports-management-finance-law-medicine-coaching-recreation departments) with Global-Digital-Futures.
  • Following Vietnam’s Vice Minister of Sport’s vision (whereby, students take training back to their provinces, along Vietnam’s 4,000km+ coastline).
